These clients wanted their outdated alpine chalet to be completely transformed into a luxury holiday home. As is the case with many of my clients, this family were based overseas and so excellent communication was vital. Other than the need for three bedrooms, the brief was very open - the client trusted that I would interpret their dream correctly. The chalet had three levels but the top floor was only accessible via an external staircase. My design changed all three levels of the building so everything, including structural floors, was removed leaving a shell as a starting point. Structural improvements included fitting new picture windows, creation of enlarged balconies, mezzanine, lowering the top floor height by 270m which doubled the habitable headroom space over 1.8m, and double floor height spaces to deliver a stunning family home with open plan living and extreme comfort. I created the design, submitted the planning application, selected all materials and fittings, and provided on-site project management for this client as well as designing and arranging for exterior landscaping.
